📰 Seen on the news
- Youtube is launching in-App social sharing features, aiming to engage users in live conversations and keep the experience within the App. The feature is already live in Canada.
- Slack is launching a Thread feature to let users keep small side-conversations pinned in a channel
- Netflix keeps beating subscriber growth records despite the increasing competition and challenges in markets like India (see article in Good reads below)
- Google will help you parking. The latest beta version of Google Maps for Android includes parking indications. We will have to wait to see how granular Google can be with this data, as not having the full picture (no source of absolute truth) makes reliability a big challenge. Google is also growing in its Developer Products Group with the Acquisition of Fabric, a suite of App services and integrations with focus on onboarding, distribution and 3rd party integrations.
- Can one-click purchase become easier? Amazon launches virtual dash buttons for frequently purchased articles at its Homepage and Apps.
- Also kudos to Amazon, on their new apprenticeship program to train veterans for tech jobs.
- Linkedin releases a big desktop redesign aiming to give easier access to conversations, social content and opportunities.
- A new 15-inch MacBook Pro could be released later this year .
- Forget self-driving cars, Airbus wants to start testing self-driving air taxis by 2017 and their CEO seems pretty serious about it.
- Los Angeles has created an Alexa “city” skill and has plans to keep integrating public services to be consulted by voice.
- Facebook rolling out fake news filter in Germany. At Germany’s government request, Facebook will launch its fake news filter in that country, being the second after US to test this service. The filter consists on a warning signal, telling the user when an item is deemed false before it gets shared. Facebook is also starting a Startup Garage program in Paris, aiming to help 10 to 15 startups every 6 months.

- 2016, an annual report for Product Managers. Why? Product Management is evolving as fast as ever. Keeping the pace of technology innovation is vital in a PM role, however fast changes in the environment need iteration on processes too. What? Paul Jackson summarizes this PM evolution with a collection of publications on different fields across all 2016.
- Best Practices for onboarding by Nick Babich. Why? A good onboarding experiences may pave the way to user engagement from the very moment they start using the App. Understanding what can they do, and more important, what’s the benefit of using the App / Service will be vital for achieving not only engagement, but an optimal user of the App / Service. What? Nick describes a series of best practices accompanied by real-life practical examples on what a good onboarding experience looks like.
- How Amazon is planning to win India. Why? Indian market is huge, and it is very different from any other market. It is very scattered in terms of social groups, sub-cultures and languages, but every piece of the puzzle could be as big as a medium European market. What? Find here some of the peculiarities of the Indian market, as well as some examples on how Amazon and other companies are leveraging them for good.
- Shopify’s design trends predictions for 2017. Why? In order to be ahed of the curve in web and design, there are few trends we should be paying attention to. What? And because predictions can be wrong more often than we wish, here goes a list of the worst Tech predictions in the last 100+ years.
